5 Things Every Student Must Do In 2018

University provides so much more than an opportunity to grow academically and socially; it also allows for self-growth too. It’s a fun and challenging experience that requires students to explore and experience new things. Becoming more independent and focussed on what makes you yourself is essential. Even though the uni experience is different for everyone, here are my top 5 things that’s every student should do in 2018

Start a new hobby

Has there ever been anything that you really wanted to try but just didn’t know how to start or have the time? You don’t have an excuse now! University life provides so much free time that you could use to start something new. Whether you self-teach yourself a musical instrument or attend taekwondo lessons, it’s a perfect opportunity to broaden your horizons and experience new things! Money is often tight when at uni, so have a look at your university’s student union to see what exciting clubs and societies that they provide. These are often a lot cheaper (or better yet, free). This is also a great chance to meet a new circle of friends who have the same interests as you.

Network

As university is the start of our careers, it’s a great opportunity to get advice from those more wise and experienced than us. Networking is an essential part of a career, and what better time to start than while at uni, surrounded by people who know the ins-and-outs of the industry. Start a LinkedIn profile to help you form and keep connections, as well as keeping a record of any work/volunteer experience you may have had.

Improve a skill

Self-improvement is a difficult concept to think about – but nobody is perfect at anything. Practice can only ever make progress. During this year, find something that you can do well and push yourself to get even better at it! You will only thank yourself later in life for it.

Explore your city

Whether you have stayed or moved away from home, the city you live in is often ignored by students unless it’s for a night out or to go shopping. More often than not, there are hundreds of free (and pretty awesome) events that happen monthly in each city. Take a look around the quirky side streets and find the best independent café’s/shops or have a wander around the nearest park. Make the most of your city – it’s your home!

Practise self-care

University can be such a stressful time for students when having to juggle essays, nights out and remembering to clean your underwear! For many of us, the experience is new and challenging, which can be very daunting. Making sure you have enough time for yourself amongst all the busyness is so important. Whether you take a short walk to clear your head or practise some mindfulness, taking time out will help to de-stress and re-motivate you to achieve what you want. Not sure where to start with meditation? Download either of the free app’s “Calm” or “Headspace” for some guided breathing and meditation exercises.

I hope that you all look back on this year and can say that you have achieved what you wanted. Make 2018 a year that matters! Let me know what other goals you have for this year?

That’s so you! Hope you take your own advise and make the most of it. It’s amazing what you can experience, enjoy and learn from but your a go getter so I trust you will embrace the opportunities and grow with them. Love you!
